He leaves his wife of 32 years, Tammy (Pifer); two precious dogs, Peanut and Sasha; his brother, Dr. Andrew Saw (Thelma) of Kearney, Nebraska and a brother, Dr. Ronnie Saw of London, England; mother and father in-law, Betty and Jay Pifer; brothers in-law, Terry and Tim Pifer and a host of extended family and friends.
He was born in Rangoon, Burma (Now Yangon, Myanmar). He grew up there graduating from the Rangoon University with honors of distinction. With one small suitcase, his parents put him on a plane bound for the United States in hopes of a better life. He came to the United States to attend the University of Arkansas where he earned his PhD in Physical Chemistry. He taught chemistry, math and karate for four decades developing character and influencing lives of everyone he taught. He was an avid wood worker leaving behind many beautiful hand-crafted pieces. He also had a penchant for sports cars and had a long list of those that he had owned. Doc loved the Lord and is no doubt with Him now where he has been made whole.
A special thanks to Kiara Baker who was a blessing from heaven for us these past five months. Also heartfelt thanks to Erica Carpenter, Drs. Eric Wallace, Brooks Vaughan, Mark Patterson, and the staff of UAB Hospital.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 14th at Southern Heritage Funeral Home beginning at 6:30pm with a gathering to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Jimmie Hale Mission or the National Kidney Foundation.
