Avery was my mother’s brother and oh how my mother loved him along with the rest of the Thompson’s siblings. I remember one time I was baby sitting Mark and Tre they were after I finally got them to sleep Avery and Shelayne came home. I spent the night with them and that night we stayed up watching Tv, Avery fell asleep in his recliner. For a joke I painted his toe nails and he never woke up until they were dry. He was not happy but we all got a good laugh. We all loved Avery and will definitely miss his great big hugs. Hardest working man his entire life to support his family. Keep Shelayne, Tre, and Mark in your prayers along with his entire family and beautiful grand children. He was so so proud of his family. We will always love and miss Uncle Junior!

AVERY IS THE NAME MOST FOLKS USED, BUT ALL OF HIS BROTHERS AND SISTERS HAVE ALWAYS CALLED HIM JUNIOR. JUNIOR WAS BORN ON A FARM OUTSIDE OF TOWN CREEK CALLED THE GRACE GIVENINGS PLACE. OUR DAD WAS A SHARE CROPPER. WE MOVED SEVERAL MORE TIMES WHEN WE LIVED IN TOWN CREEK. WE MOVED TO ANOTHER FARM CALLED THE HERBERT KNOFF PLACE. THAT WAS THE LAST FARM WE LIVED ON AS SHARE CROPPERS. WE LIVED ACCROSS THE FIELD FROM BRYCE BRACKIN. WE MOVED TO TOWN WHEN OUR DAD BECAME A POLICE CHIEF AT TOWN CREEK. HE LATER BECAME A POLICEMAN IN LEIGHTON. FROM THERE WE MOVED TO SHEFFIELD WHERE DAD BECAME A POLICE WHEN JUNIOR WAS IN THE SECOND GRADE. I REMEMBER WHEN WE LIVED ON THE KNOFF PLACE JUNIOR WAS RIDING ON A TRACTOR WITH OUR DAD. I WAS RIDING BEHIND HIM ON A BICYLE. HE TRIED TO KICK ME AND GOT HIS LEG CAUGHT IN THE SPACE BETWEEN THE FENDER AND THE TIRE. HE HAD A CLOSE CALL. I REMEMBER WHEN I RETURNED FROM VIET NAM IN 1968 JUNIOR AND RICK COLLINS BETTER KNOWN AS PHANTOM WERE TRYING TO START UP A BAND CALLED THE TRACES OF BLUE. OUR DAD ON A POLICEMANS SALARY COULD NOT AFFORD TO BUY JUNIOR AN INSTRUMENT. I HAD RECEIVED SOME SERVICE SEPERATION PAY AND BOUGHT HIM A BASS GUITAR. I'LL NEVER FORGET THE LOOK ON HIS FACE. I BOUGHT A 1969 CAMERO WITH MONEY I HAD SAVED WHILE IN SERVICE. I LET JUNIOR DRIVE IT FOR TWO WEEKS WHILE I WAS OUT OF TOWN. BOY DID HE HAVE A GOOD TIME! HE COULD TALK ME IN TO JUST ABOUT ANYTHING. ONE NIGHT HE ASK ME TO RIDE HIM BY THE HOUSE OF ONE OF HIS RIVALS (FOR SHELAYNE'S HAND). WE STOPPED AND HE OPENED A CART OF FRESH EGGS. ONE BY ONE LIKE A CHEF HE CRACKED THE EGGS ON TOP OF HIS CAR. RICK COLLINS WIFE, OLIVIA TREATED HIM LIKE A KING WHEN HE WAS UP FROM BIRMINGHAM NEEDING A PLACE TO STAY WHEN HIS BAND WAS PLAYING IN OUR AREA. HE WAS LOVED BY EVERYBODY THAT COME IN CONTACT WITH HIM. HE LOVED HIS FAMILY WIFE SHELAYNE ,BOYS MARK AND TRE AND EXPECIALLY HIS GRANDKIDS WHO CALLED HIM "POPS". HE LOVED HIS BROTHERS AND SISTERS, HIS COUSINS, AND ALL HIS FRIENDS.

Avery was 1 of the first people I met at UST. He was an inspiration and a good friend to me and I will be forever grateful for him.

We used to spend time as families hosting customers at nascar races and those wonderful times at Dreamland BBQ with Curran are treasured memories for me.

Shelayne, you and the boys are in my prayers and my family is here should you need anything.

Avery - thanks for memories buddy.
