MIMS, BAKER DALTON, age 20, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 20, 2013. He was born in Homewood, Alabama and lived in the Birmingham, Alabama area most of his life. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends as an incredibly bright, young man who was fun-loving and easy-going. Baker was baptized at age 11 at First Baptist Church of Birmingham and later moved his membership to Shades Mountain Baptist Church. He liked to initiate help, and was exceptionally able to gain and keep the trust of others. For three summers, he was a counselor at Camp Winnataska in Pell City, Alabama. He excelled in football and track at his high school alma mater, Vestavia Hills High. Baker was on a recreational swim team and enjoyed many summers as a lifeguard. He was in his second year at the University of Alabama at the time of his passing. Baker was preceded in death by his three grandfathers, Ford Mims, Forrest Baker, and W.L. Thomas. Survivors include Baker's parents, Ronnie and Beverly Baker Mims; one sister, Olivia Mims; two grandmothers, Juanita Thomas and Marjorie Baker; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Baker will also be missed by his two dogs, Rocky and Blossom. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Shades Mountain Baptist Church, Birmingham. The private graveside service will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
