

Barbara Jane McLane Johnson, age 93, of Hoover, Alabama passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026. She was born in Jefferson County at the TCI Hospital in Fairfield, Alabama on September 16, 1932 to George William McLane and Ethel May Elliott McLane.
Barbara grew up in Ensley, Alabama and she graduated from Ensley High School in 1950. She was a member of Ensley Baptist Church and later a charter member of Valleydale Baptist Church. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Siluria Baptist Church.
Barbara married Charles William Johnson, Sr. on Saint Patrick's Day (March 17, 1951). They were married until his passing on December 17, 2016.
She worked as an administrative and executive assistant throughout her working career, retiring from Lakeshore Hospital Foundation in 1997. In retirement, she enjoyed life at Lay Lake in the home her family built.
Family was Barbara's greatest pride and joy. Family genealogy became a passion with many years spent in research. She also enjoyed listening to music and sharing her gift at the piano. There was a song for everything that touched her life.
Barbara's hobbies and pastimes also included volunteering with the Shelby County Historical Society, going to the beach and the mountains with her family, making side trips when visiting family or in her genealogy research, and watching classic movies on TCM.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Johnson, Sr.; her parents, George and Ethel McLane; and her brother and sister-in-law, George and Zeta McLane. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Warren (John) and Judy Johnson; son, Charles William Johnson (Claudia); grandchildren, Scott (Sarah), Lee (Jennifer), Allison (Nick), Sean, Bill (Ashley), Janie (Chris), and Nikki; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Aubrey, Jack, Austin, Lilly, Joshua, Rebecca, William, and Charlie; and her beloved cousin and friend, Joyce Mote.
Interment: Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama at 10:15 a.m. on Mon., Feb. 2, 2026, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. and reception at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124.
