

Mrs. Jones was born Barbara Jean Harris on September 7, 1930, to Mr. Edward John Harris Jr. and Mrs. Lucy Boone Harris. She was the elder of two children, grew up in the city of Birmingham, and was a graduate of Phillips High School.
At the age of 14, the then Miss Harris met her future husband Ronald Ryan Jones. They were subsequently married on October 23, 1948, in Columbus, Mississippi. The couple lived briefly in Rocky Ridge prior to relocating to South Carolina. During the Korean War, Mrs. Jones returned to Rocky Ridge where the couple would eventually reside for twenty-four years before moving to Hoover in 1975 and then retiring to Montevallo in 2005. Their union was blessed by the birth of four children, weathered military deployments, and lasted for an impressive seventy-two years.
Mrs. Jones was an avid gardener and a member of the Ridgeview Garden Club, the Petal Pushers Garden Club, and the Botanical Gardens Society. She was also a member of the Iota Sorority. Mrs. Jones enjoyed the pastry arts and was best known for her wedding cakes. She was also a gourmet cook and served as the lead chef for the Carpenters for Christ missions for many years. She was naturally talented in drawing and painting and was a beacon of style and elegance. She loved to entertain guests at her home and left no detail unturned. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling to new destinations, cruises, bowling with the ACIPCO bowling league, and spending time with her friends and family.
Mrs. Jones was a long-term standing member of Lakeside Baptist Church and was a member of Providence Baptist Church in her later years.
Mrs. Jones is preceded in death by her parents Mr. Edward John Harris Jr. and Mrs. Lucy Boone Harris and her brother-in-law Mr. Fakradine Dolatabadi. Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband Ronald Ryan Jones, four children Mr. Ronald Wayne Jones (Violet), Mr. Richard Lee Jones (Louise), Mrs. Carol Jones Watson (Jim), Mrs. Lisa Jones Anglin (Doug), and her brother Mr. Terrell Lee Harris (Mary Elaine) and her sister-in-law Mrs. Billie Jones Dolatabadi, as well as ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Mrs. Jones will be held on March 16th, 2021 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Cahaba Valley Road. Visitation for family will be at 12:00 pm. Public will be received at 1:00 pm, with a service to follow at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Jones’ memory can be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
