Barton worked as a Field Service Engineer for over 30 years and retired from Rockwell Automation. He was a member of Horizon Church and served as a board member, usher and greeter. Barton enjoyed watching Alabama football and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved playing and watching golf. His favorite past time was spending time with his family. His contagious smile and funny, charismatic personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barton H. Newell and Dorothy Flack and his sister, Marilyn Karl.
He was survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Laverne; his sons, Barton (LouAnn) Newell III, Gregory (Anna) Newell; his daughters, Adrienne (Dan) Mosley, Lori (Victor) Portella; his grandchildren, Miranda (John) Nichols, Barton (Savannah) Newell IV, Dalton Newell, Jesse Newell, Seth Newell, Alan Newell, Justin (Chelsee) Mosley, Christine (Matthew) Burns, Herchel (Sarah) Portella, Sarah (Leon) Brewington, Kasey (Adam Byrd) Gordon; Great-Grandfather to Hayden Newell, Madeline Newell, Jeremiah Mosley, Elliot Mosley, Katie Boykin, Samantha Burns, Maddison Burns, Caroline Burns and Ellie Grace Brewington; his brother-in-law, Karl; his sister, Patsy Lombardo and his brother, James Newell. He is loved and will be missed by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great nephews.
A visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 9:00 AM followed by A Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM. The committal service will immediately follow after the chapel service at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
