Bena Rose Marino, age 91, native and life-long resident of the Birmingham, AL area, passed away October 18, 2020. Bena was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and a former, long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she diligently assisted the Presentation Sisters from Ireland during their assignment at Saint Joseph’s Catholic School.
She retired from Alabama Power Company in 2005 as an Executive Secretary after 39 years of service.
She will be remembered for her strong faith, love and commitment to God, family and friends. Her memory will remain in the hearts of everyone who knew her
Bena was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Marino, two sisters, Marie Pitts (Vincent) and Annie Mae Piazza (Sam), and her brother, Salvador A. Marino. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Josephine Marino, eight nephews: Anthony Pitts, Joseph Pitts (Sharon), Archbishop Joseph S. Marino, Anthony Marino, Sal Marino (Paula), Charles Piazza, Joseph Piazza (Angie), and Sal Piazza as well as numerous great and great-great nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at the church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Saint Vincent’s Hospice and her personal caregivers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 5514 Double Oak Lane, Birmingham, AL 35242.
