

She was born on January 3, 1932 in Canton, Mississippi, to William Joseph Dow and Elizabeth Inez Jones.
She attended high school at Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi. She furthered her education at University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Professionally, Betty was employed by Southern Bell in Jackson, MS where she met her husband, Edwin Carroll Bush Sr. Together they were blessed with two children, Eddie and Stacy. In 1968, they moved to Birmingham, Alabama where they spent the majority of the time raising their family.
A woman of deep faith, Betty was a devoted member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church for 58 years, where she faithfully attended the Love Sunday School Class. She met many life-long friends through the church.
In her free time, she enjoyed ceramics, sewing, gardening, and watching the birds out of her back window. She will be remembered for kindness, strength, generosity, and unwavering faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband.
She is survived by her two children, Edwin C. Bush Jr. (Amy), and Stacy Bush Herring (John). She is also survived by her 5 wonderful grandchildren, Drew Herring (Alli), Julia Bush, Will Bush, Mallory Herring Moore (Josiah), and Tyler Bush, as well as 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother and two sisters, Dr. James R. Dow, Anna Dow, and Kerry Bates.
A celebration of her life will be held on August 6, 2026 at 11:00 am at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation time from 10:00 am to 11:00 am before the celebration of life. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to caregivers, friends, and church family for the love and care shown to Betty throughout her life.
