

Betty Dean Hargrove received her greatly deserved Angel Wings and found her place in Heaven on January 19, 2024. She was just shy of her 93rd birthday; born on March 15, 1931, in Hanceville AL. She and her husband Charles (Charlie) were married for 59 years before his passing in 2012. Both were devoted Christians and were members of Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
Following High School, she attended Birmingham Business College; after graduation she married and began working for PEMCO and the Department of Defense as a secretary; from there she worked her way to become an Industrial Specialist after 3 years of training at multiple Air Force bases around the country. Retiring after 35 years of government service she and Charlie purchased Mill Street Deli in Boaz, AL., which is still known today for its famous Chicken Salad and is still listed as one of the 100 Dishes to Eat in AL before you die.
Betty was preceded in death, by her husband Charlie; parents, John and Evie Dean; siblings, Mabel, Austin, Mary Paul, Johnny; and her beloved dog Max. Survivors include her daughter, Kelli Wood-Perkins, and son-in-law; Clay; grandson, Jordan Robert Wood and bonus granddaughter, Carly Virginia Perkins; along with many greatly cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins; Being known for her fun and quirky personality, she has been surrounded by a multitude of friends that are too numerous to list.
A special thank you to the caregivers that have loved and cared for her over the years, Dr. John Ammon, Olga, Lisa, and Marchelle. The neighbors of Greystone Highland Circle enhanced her life beyond measure. To the Golden Girls you were some of her closest most cherished friends of all. Marty and Michael, there are not enough words to describe the gratitude we have for all that you did for her and the special place you held in her heart.
Services will be at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124 on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. The family will welcome visitors at 9:30 A.M followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. There are no graveside services scheduled. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to your favorite charity or to Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Birmingham.
