The STATUM FAMILY were our pastor, at SPRING STREET CHURCH OF GOD, Talladega, Ala., in the late 40’s and one of the best ever. Bro. Statum was a good preacher, but was a great pastor who looked after his congregation.

BETTY JOYCE was a very beautiful and respected young lady and enjoyed the friendship of everyone who came into her life.

I was saddened to learn of her passing, and the BARTONS offer our condolences to the HODGE FAMILY.

A special thanks to A life long friend, of BETTY JOYCE and myself, MAX MORRIS, for sharing the home going service.

Betty Joyce and my Mother, Carolyn Statum Adams, grew up as cousins and friends. My Mom shared many memories of her childhood and young adult years with Betty Joyce. As my Mother battled breast cancer for eight years, Betty Joyce and Art would visit from time to time. This was always an encouragement for her and was followed by Mother sharing a memory of their childhood. My Mother loved and admired Betty Joyce very much! I understood this more after my Mom passed because Betty Joyce took the time to reach out to me several times with word of encouragement, memories and pictures of them as children. Another warrior for Christ has made it home. My condolences to all her family. The gap she left will be large, but oh what the legacy! Love and prayers! Denise

Betty Joyce was a sweet, caring lady as I remember from my childhood at my Mawmaw Statum's home. As of recent, we had chatted on Facebook about an upcoming wedding for her granddaughter. She was excited and wanting to make it perfect. Sending love and prayers for all of you.

I was just a teen-Ager when I traveled to Jackson, MS to sing with my sisters (The Jacobs Sisters) at the Church of God there to celebrate Pastor Ronnie Brock’s Anniversary.
Me and my sister stayed wth the Hodges. I think Lisa May have been 4-5. We were treated with such royalty and such a beautiful home .. I was afraid to touch anything as a farm girl living in an old farm house😊. But what a Grt hostess this beautiful lady was.. will always remember❤️ Tht weekend🙏🙏🙏🙏

I have known Betty for many years and have loved her and Art just as long. We had many special times in Jackson, MS, at Bailey Av Church of God.
She was such a giving and loving person,
Always ready to help.
She was one of those people that you don’t see them often but when you do, we just picked up like we had never been apart.
I know she is rejoicing in Heaven and waiting on us.
Praying for the sweet family she left on Earth. The Comforter is holding you. 💕

Betty Joyce, as she was always affectionately called by my family, was one of the most beautiful people I have ever known. As a child, I learned to love her, and her brother Hugh, before I really came to know her well, because she, and her family, was so loved by my grandparents and my parents. God then allowed our paths to cross again in Mississippi when we were in ministry there, where our children became friends with Betty and Art’s children. In later years, God brought Betty and Art, Lisa and Jon and their children, back into the lives of our children, who were on staff at Metro COG, where they attended in Birmingham. Our families’ lives have crisscrossed in love and friendship through five generations. Betty’s dad, Pastor Talmadge Statum, and her mother, beautiful Ruby Jewel, led my mother to the Lord and took her under their spiritual wing when they pastored in Talladega, Alabama. Then, in 1946, Pastor Statum performed the wedding for my daddy and mother. I owe so much to Betty’s family for the Christian heritage that my family and I have today. I will miss her so; her love, her radiant personality, her wit, our conversations about our grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, and Christian heritage, and her example of love for God and others, But, I know that she is in the presence of The Lord that she loved and served so faithfully all of her life. We can’t bring her back, but we can go where she is. The hearts and prayers of the Harris family are with Art and their precious family today and in the days ahead; for the peace of God that passes all understanding to embrace them and fill the void that is left by Betty’s absence from this life. We love you all.
