CRONE, BILL L., age 85, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, passed away Thursday morning, January 24, 2013. He was born August 6, 1927 in Eastland, Texas to Lula and Carl Crone. Bill, a 1944 Eastland High School graduate, served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Navy during WWII before earning academic degrees from Texas A&M University and later Harvard University School of Business. His engineering career began in 1950 with a chemical processing company in Texas. He served in various leadership roles with companies in The Lone Star State, Oklahoma, and Kansas before moving to Birmingham, Alabama in 1975 to work for Vulcan Chemicals. He retired from Vulcan in 1991 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He was a long-time member of The Club in Birmingham. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, the former Margaret Hipp. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, the former Peggy Greene Gilmore; children, William Randolph "Randy" Crone, Gary Phillip "Phil" Crone, Deborah "Kathleen" Crone Stahl (Jim), and Sherri Broussard (Bruce); and six grandchildren, Kaytlend Crone, Corey Crone, Sierra Crone, Jessica Stahl, Kaitlen Stahl, and James Stahl. The family will visit with friends from 2-3 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The private funeral service will follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
