Talk about somebody who could make you laugh, Bobby Ray Sellers Jr was perhaps the best. Ray was born October 8th, 1958 at St. Vincent’s hospital in Birmingham during the time when it was REQUIRED for the father (Bobby Ray Sellers Sr.) to wait in the waiting room and smoke either cigarettes or cigars while Ray’s Mother (Joyce McDonald Sellers) did all the work. 42 years later, during the birth of Ray’s son (Jay Coulter Sellers) Ray had a completely different experience. He was REQUIRED to “suit up” and participate in the ENTIRE birth. Witnesses’ with photos to prove it agree that this was THE happiest day of Ray’s life.
Ray was a typical kid growing up in the sixties with “Greatest Generation” parents. Ray’s mom required that after playing outside Ray could only come inside if he took a bath. Ray decided to stay outside most of the time. Consequently Ray ate hundreds of bologna sandwiches handed to him through the screen door while drinking water out of the “hose pipe”. This upbringing served to build Ray’s strong character that his friends and family enjoyed to this day.
Ray grew up a proud Alabama Football fan but somehow got severely brainwashed after easily breezing-through the Accounting Bachelor’s degree program at Auburn University. Afterwards Ray was lucky enough to overcome the Auburn degree and land a job at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama where he excelled first as a Software Developer and then as a manager of many software developers. The feedback from Ray’s coworkers and/or employees all have the same theme. Everybody loved Ray’s sense of humor and quick wit but what was probably loved most of all is Ray’s laugh. His loud laugh had the ability to put a smile on the faces of a room full of several hundred Software Developers!
Ray passed away at his home sometime during the late-night/early morning of Tuesday November 10th, 2020. He was 62 years old and will be missed by all who knew him. Due to Covid-19, Ray’s close family will participate in a private celebration of his life at a later time. Several years ago Ray documented his desire to be cremated because he said that was obviously the only way he was going to have a smoking hot body!
