Brett Douglas McBrayer, age 51, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away April 15, 2020 at 7:22 a.m. from complications of a traumatic brain injury. He was born in Birmingham on September 22, 1968 and graduated from McAdory High School in 1986.

Brett was active with Boy Scouts of America and was very proud to be a three-palm Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow member. He went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Pre-Law from the University of Alabama. He was a member of the ChiPhi Fraternity, served with the SGA, and played trumpet in the Million Dollar Marching Band.

Brett served 17 years as the President of the Birmingham Automobile Dealers Association (BADA) and the Executive Producer of the Alabama International Auto Show. He was passionate about numerous Birmingham area charities, and he hosted special events to raise awareness and provide fundraising opportunities.

Through BADA, Brett helped to raise over $7 million dollars during his career for groups such as Children’s Hospital, Toys for Tots, the Autism Society, Kid One Transport, the Lovelady Center, Camp SAM and many others. In addition to having more than 25 cars donated to these worthy causes, he also helped to create car tags supporting autism, ovarian cancer, and childhood cancer.

Brett was selected as Birmingham Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40. He served as a Birmingham Area Chamber of Commerce Trustee, 1996-2010; a member of the Executive Committee of Greater Alabama Boy Scouts of America, 2002-2010; a graduate of Leadership Shelby County, 2008; a member of the Board of Directors of Automotive Trade Association Executives, 2002-2006; a member of the Board of Directors of Camp Smile a Mile, 2000-2005; and a member of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce’s Workforce Development Committee, 2001-2003.

Brett was an active member of A2 Church and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and gardening. He thoroughly loved marching with the MDB Alumni band each fall and attending Alabama football games.

Brett is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Kimberly Mixon McBrayer; mother, Joan Butler McBrayer, son, Brandon McBrayer; daughters, Kelsey McBrayer and Cassidy Sumpter. He is pre-deceased by his step-son, Carson Sumpter and his father, Harold McBrayer.

Due to current COVD19 conditions, plans to hold a Celebration of Life at A2 Church have been paused, and will be announced as soon as public gathering bans have been lifted.
