Bruce Lloyd Mealins of Alabaster, AL went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, May 9th. Bruce was born on July 15, 1936 in Chicago, IL. He graduated from United States Merchant Marine Academy and got his Masters at Tulane University. He was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church and a member of the Alabama Chapter of American Merchant Marine Veterans. Bruce was a devoted Christian, a loving husband, father and grandfather. Bruce was one of three sons born to the late George and Divona (Wind) Mealins and was the beloved husband of his wife, Kay Fleming Mealins for 31 years. Bruce will be remembered by his brothers Earl (Kathy) Mealins and Brian (Cyndie Renfro) Mealins, his son, Court and his wife Julie Mealins, his daughter, Caroline and her husband Mark Van Lake and his step-daughter Amanda Brown Powell, and his treasured grandchildren, Emily, Ashley and Evan Mealins, Julia and Carrie Van Lake and Avery Powell and countless other friends and family members who were blessed to know him. Bruce loved helping others, long distance running, working with his hands, being with his family and his affiliation with the Merchant Marines and his men’s Sunday School class. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 13th at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL from 1pm until 3pm. Memorial service will follow at 3pm and a reception after the service there at Southern Heritage. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Shades Mountain Baptist Church Missions Program. Buzz and I loved going back in time with Bruce and his family. He was a wonderful friend and Christian brother. We will miss him here but we know he will be waiting on the other side. Kay you were a devoted wife to Bruce and took such wonderful care of him. We will continue to lift you, Amanda and all of Bruce's children and grandchildren up in prayer.
