

Cannie O’dell Hartz Blackmon, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and follower of Jesus Christ, went to be home with her Savior in the early hours of August 14, 2015. A native of Red Level, Alabama, she has lived in Birmingham for over the past 50 years with her husband of 53 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and one brother. She is survived by her faithful husband, John, one sister, Rosa Faust, daughters Kay Yates, Michele (Jason) McCrory , and Tarra (Scott) Dawson. She has five incredible grandchildren: Daniel Yates, Hunter Dawson, Sarah Elizabeth McCrory, Hope Dawson, and John Michael McCrory. In addition, she leaves behind numerous loved ones and friendships with everyone she has met. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Alabaster, Alabama.
Cannie was a woman of strong conviction for her faith and love for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who left a legacy of faith in each person. C.S. Lewis says, “We are not a body with a soul, but a soul with a body.” The family holds to the promise of Christ that He has prepared a place for her and that she is celebrating with Him over people who come to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.
Visitation will be held at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home (Pelham) Sunday, August 16, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. A going home celebration will be held at the First Baptist Church Alabaster, Alabama on Monday, August 17, 2015 at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Mike Byars officiating. Burial and interment will follow at the Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama.
