A graduate of Southeastern Bible College and Samford University, Carl served as a bi-vocational minister of music for numerous churches in the Birmingham, Alabama area for 35 years. He also taught Bible classes for over 30 years. He was a current member of Lakeside Baptist Church and a former member of Green Valley Baptist Church.
Carl retired from the Xerox Corporation as an engineering specialist. He and his wife Joan enjoyed traveling, and he was a veracious reader and a tenacious chess player.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl W. and Lila Chambers, and his sister, Margaret Hardison.
Survivors include Carl's wife of 63 years, Dr. Joan Gardiner Chambers; two children, Rita Schoenherr (Rick) and Dale Chambers (Cathy); and two granddaughters, Lauren and Alyssa Chambers.
Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, immediately followed by A Celebration of Carl's Life at 1 p.m. at the funeral home's chapel. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham. Dr. Greg Corbin and Dr. Richard Trader will officiate.
