Catharine Jean Stroud Giada, age 83, of Chelsea, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her children on April 10, 2021 following a short illness. She was born on June 5, 1937 in Birmingham, Alabama to David and Catharine Stroud.
Catharine graduated from Ensley High School in 1955. That same year, she married the love of her life, James M. Giada, and began her life as a devoted wife and mother.
Catharine was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Chelsea and Allan Smith's Sunday School Class. Her greatest joy was spending time with her large family. She enjoyed fellowship with her friends from Bingo, Bunco, Dominoes, and the Chelsea Community Center, as well as her new-found friends in Murphysboro, Illinois. She loved to travel, especially to the beach, and was able to visit Fairhope, Alabama and Asheville, North Carolina before COVID-19 restrictions limited her travels.
Preceding Catharine in death were her husband; her parents; her brother, Edward "Buzzie"; and one granddaughter, Heather.
Survivors include Catherine's children and their spouses, Donna (David) Scissom, Anna (Mike) Vaughn, Pat Earl, James Giada, Jr., and Cathy (Joe) Lee; grandchildren, Jeff (Susanna), Emily (Bra Ie), Jessica (Richard), Erica (Jeremy), Catherine, and Madelyn; great-grandchildren, Dominick, Landon, Katherine, Zoey, Camden, Jackson, Mason, Connor, Ella, and Kase; and one brother, David Stroud. Catherine is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, Alabama. Brother John Foles will officiate.
