

Charles W. Cooper passed away Friday afternoon, July 17 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was a long time resident of Hoover, Alabama. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Winifred (Winnie) K. Cooper, his sister, Sharon Prafka (George) of Edmond, OK, sister Deanna Heath, of Kansas City, KS and brother, Gerald Cooper of Tecumseh, KS and 13 nieces and nephews living from coast to coast. He was a faithful long-time member of Shades Mountain church of Christ, Hoover, AL. Charles was born in Amarillo, Texas, May 30,1940 to William Hyde Cooper and Mary Alice Poff. He graduated from Salina High School, Salina KS. He attended the University of Kansas where he was a member of Delta Chi fraternity and majored in architectural Engineering. Charles was in the Army National Guard then transferred to the U.S. Air Force. He was employed by Rust Engineering in Birmingham, AL for more than 30 years. He continued to do contract work for BE & K and KBR here in Birmingham. Charles was an accomplished wood worker doing his own designs and creations. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly--he was loyal and devoted to the core. Charles loved his little beagle dogs as well and they loved him too. His funeral will be held Wednesday, July 22 at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL with visitation at 10 AM followed by a brief graveside service at 11 AM. Minister Mel Futrell presiding. In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Charles's name be made to The Shades Mountain Church of Christ or The Greater Birmingham Humane Society
