Charles Edward Grantham, 70, of Bessemer, Alabama, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021. He was born in Andalusia, Alabama on March 15, 1950, and lived there most of his childhood and teen years.
Charles married the former Sandra Mosley of Andalusia on March 9, 1973. They moved to the Birmingham, Alabama area in 2006, at which time they became highly involved members at Homewood Church of Christ. An Andalusia High School graduate, Charles earned his Associate Degree from the Lurleen B. Wallace Junior College. After serving in the U.S. Army, he enjoyed a long and successful career in broadcast engineering, retiring from Alabama Public Television as Chief Operating Officer.
Charles developed many professional relationships and lasting friendships as a member of the local Rotary Club and several professional engineering associations. In his free time, he was a “Jack of all trades,” and he and his two sons loved to go to drag racing events. Every Spring, they ventured to Gainesville, Florida for the national drag racing competitions.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, Geraldine Brooks Grantham and J.C. Grantham. Survivors include Charles’ wife, Sandra Mosley Grantham; two sons, Chuck Grantham (Kim) and Chris Grantham (Jessica); grandchildren, Nicole Andrews (Johnny) and Sean Grantham (Lydia); great-grandchildren, Peyton Andrews, Ellie Andrews, and Aurora Grantham; and two sisters, Shelia Peek and Elaine Johnson (Marion).

Charles and I were born 6 days apart. Our mothers were sisters. I remember fondly spending time at their house in Andalusia when we were kids. I am saddened by his passing but know he is rejoicing in heaven at the feet of his Lord Jesus with Aunt Geral and Uncle JC as well as our Brooks grandparents, my parents, and many of our aunts and uncles.
May God's peace and comfort be with Sandra, Chuck, Chris and the many other family members at this time and in the days ahead,
Cousin Barbara

Charlie was often the first person I saw on weekdays as we carpooled to work for several years. He was always so positive and cheerful that I couldn't help but get a great start to my day. I know he's still spreading that cheer in his eternal home. Charlie has reached the top of the highest tower he could climb and I know he is cheering us on to stay positive and to serve the Lord.
You will be so sorely missed, Charlie. Rest in peace.

I will always remember when I would stay at the farm during the summer or Christmas vacation. We all had good times playing and taking care of the cows and hogs. It was always a lot of fun to go see Mama Lena and Daddy Horace, especially when they had fried turkey breast. I really have good memories of my younger days with Charles.

Dear Family,
So sorry to hear about Charlie. He was one of our favorite cousins. I know he will be missed greatly. The world has lost a "good one" . I remember him as a little quiet but with a "sneaky" sense of humor. We always were glad that we were going to Aunt Geral's house because between the 5 of us DeVane kids and the three Grantham kids there was usually some fun and trouble. May the Lord give you peace and rest. Love Sue

Our families prayers are with you in this difficult time. It was a pleasure knowing Charlie and I admired the servant Christlike heart that he demonstrated in all things he did. He will be missed, however, I know that he is in the arms of his Savior now.
Your brother and sister in Christ,

Sandra, Charlie and I, along with several other cooks, got to know each other while cooking for the homeless each month. The cooking gave us many minutes to sit around and chat. I found out that Charlie and I were very much alike in what we liked to do. I shall miss him sorely as a dear friend. In times like these I read the first four verses of Rev chapter 21. A big virtual hug to you! Tony

Charles
My life long friend so many happy times and stories
We shared a work table in mechanical drawing class he seldom used his eraser
He designed and built or home coming floats including one we were disqualified for using professional help the powers could not believe the bulldog cut outs were done by students
He helped me feed my family with purchase orders from Alabama Public TV
And he married Sandra the best teacher my children ever had
We the Class of 1968 all share wonderful memories of Charlie the best of the best the greatest of the great

Sandra we are so sorry for your loss. Charlie was a great, Christian man. He was always ready to help anyone in need. I appreciate all he did in Memaw's quilting center. Also all the mission trips he went on.

Dear Sandra and Chris I hated so bad to hear about Charlie's sickness and then his passing. My thoughts and prayers will be with you in the coming days and weeks ahead. May the good Lord give you peace. I haven't seen either of you in years although it seems like yesterday. I will never forget Charlie's smile. He was a fine Christian man and a great example to all those who knew him.
