Charles M. Kent

Sonny, as he was referred to by most everyone who knew him was born in Austin Texas on August 12, 1940 to the parents of James M. Kent and Nellie Sharp Kent. He was the oldest of nine children. Sonny and his wife Cathy have lived in Pelham for over 40 years. He never met a stranger, was well known in the community and loved by everyone who knew him. He owned his own company, Charles Kent Painting which started out as a one man operation but quickly grew into something much larger and has lasted for more than fifty years. Sonny took great pride in his work and everyone knew, if CKP was on the job, it would be done right because Sonny was honest, fair and trustworthy. His great integrity and remarkable character was evident in everything he did and those same qualities could be seen even more in his family life. Sonny lived and labored every day for his wife, and his family. He and Cathy were married on December 31, 1971 and Sonny would be quick to tell anyone that Cathy, was the love of his life and how thankful he was to have her by his side. Together they loved, and raised five children. When it came to his children and grandchildren, they came first and the love and loyalty he felt for each of them was unmatched by anything else in his life. Sonny was preceded in death by his father,James Kent, Mother, Nellie Kent, Beloved son, Danny Kent and Grandson, Joel (JoJo) Wood. Sonny is survived by his wife Cathy, daughters Marianna Kent, Gena Ledford (Stanley) Michelle Williams (Jeff), Stacey Demianenko (Justin) 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 brothers and 6 sisters. We will celebrate Sonnys life on July 2, 2019 at 4 o'clock. Sister Gail Donahoo officiating. Open Door Church is located at 1295 Second Avenue Calera, Alabama 35040.
