Clarence Norman Petty

Clarence grew up in Selma, Alabama was educated at Parrish High School. He finished college at Emory University with a degree in Philosophy and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After graduation, he was on active duty with the National Guard for six months and then finished his training in the Army Reserve.

Clarence worked for his father at Petty Tire Company in Selma, Alabama for three years before returning to Atlanta, Georgia where he worked for Friden Calculator Company. After one year in Atlanta, he was promoted to Branch Manager of Friden, Inc. in Montgomery, Alabama. It was in Montgomery that he met his lovely wife, Sue Bryant Petty. In 1974, Clarence formed Advanced Office Products, Inc. where he sold office machines and mailing equipment until he sold the business in 2006.

The Petty’s were members of Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church for many years before joining Brookwood Baptist Church. Clarence was an active member in his Sunday School Class, on the finance committee and was an active deacon. He also enjoyed being an active member of Score where he helped people desiring to go into business for themselves.

Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Bryant Petty, his sister Sarah Petty Dagenhart, his brother, James Ward Petty and his niece, Lee Ann Petty. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Petty Walton (Mark), his son, Norman Scott Petty (Mary Hassell), his grandchildren, Kevin Walton, Nicholas Walton, Nathan Petty and Allison Petty. He is also survived by his brother W. David Petty (Carol) and his brother in law Larry Dagenhart and their families.

A graveside service to honor the life of Clarence will be held Thursday May 23rd, 2024 at 10:30am with a visitation prior to the service at: Southern Heritage Funeral Home located at 475 Cahaba Valley Road Pelham, AL 35124.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make a donation in Clarence’s memory to Brookwood Baptist Church, 3449 Overton Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35223.
