Clyde was the son of Gordon W. Brashier and Mildred W. Brashier. He grew up in Irondale, Alabama and attended Shades Valley High School. After graduating high school, Clyde went to work with Southern Electric Steel while also serving in the Alabama Army National Guard. In 1978, he moved his family to Cheshire, Connecticut for two years while he worked for Yale Steel. Clyde returned to Alabama to work at Birmingham Steel and continued working there until he retired (then Nucor Steel) in 2006. Clyde was proud of his 44 years of service to the steel industry and valued the friendships he developed over the years.
Clyde was an avid outdoor enthusiast who grew up hunting and fishing with his brothers and good friends, Jack Crawford and Jimmy Ashworth. As a young man, Clyde’s love for the outdoors included raising and training bird dog pointers, some of whom eventually became field trial champions. He was a lifelong fan of the Crimson Tide and enjoyed discussing the legacies of Coach Bryant and Coach Saban. He enjoyed reading and was interested in history and politics. He had a sarcastic wit and fun-loving sense of humor. His favorite movie was National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and his children often referred to him as “Clark” after the main character, Clark W. Griswold! As a father, Clyde always found time to volunteer with youth sports at the Pelham City Park and Lakeside Baptist Church. When Clyde was not at one of his children’s sporting events, he enjoyed spending time gardening and working in the yard.
Clyde always sacrificed to ensure the happiness of his family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith “Judy” Keith Brashier. Clyde and Judy met at age 4 and began dating in high school. They were married in 1966. Clyde is also survived by his children, Leigh Brashier Mitchell (Steve) of Hixson, TN, Keith Edward Brashier of Birmingham, AL, and Craig Hunter Brashier (Kimberly) of McKinney, TX; his grandchildren, Lily Grace Mitchell, Stevie Mitchell, Hunter Brashier and Hannah Brashier; and his siblings, Paul W. Brashier, Charles G. Brashier and Frances Brashier Crawford (Hal), along with several nieces and nephews.
Clyde was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. He was a man of unshakable faith and practiced his faith by demonstrating good character, integrity and compassion. Clyde lived his life by the Golden Rule, and he showed others how to express love through laughter. He will be greatly missed, but his spirit and infectious humor will live on through his family who adored him.
Services to celebrate and honor the life of Clyde Brashier will be held Monday January 13, 2025, at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a celebration service to follow at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the Jimmie Hale Mission (https://jimmiehalemission.com/donate/ or Nick’s Kids Foundation (https://www.nickskidsfoundation.org/donate).
