Born and raised in Memphis, TN, after earning her bachelor’s, she taught for over 25 years at Lauderdale Elementary School, earning an M.S. in Education and becoming a literacy leader. She worshipped at Bellevue Baptist Church.
She is survived by her three children, Scott Neal, Jeff Neal, and Jenifer Keenum; two grandchildren, Mady Neal and Alex Keenum; and great-grandchild Avery Page, as well as her sister Joyce Shobert and her descendants. Her parents Maurice and Eva Dean Thompson (née Boggs) and granddaughter Lexie Keenum predeceased her.
Connie loved to read and was a lifetime advocate for children's reading. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her many girls' trips with her best friend Debbie Oliver.
She will be interred at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, AL. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Memphis Literacy Institute.
