Courtney attended Sixth Avenue Baptist Church and Hoover and Pelham schools, graduating from Pelham High School in 2003. He studied business at Jefferson State Community College, where he met Erica Ellington. They united in marriage in 2007 and jointly operated C & E Janitorial for a number of years. Most recently he was employed by Brixx Pizza and was additionally an apprentice for kitchen and bath refinishing.
Courtney loved sports – especially Auburn and Florida State football. Whatever he undertook he did it wholeheartedly. He dressed with style and never left home uncoordinated. He was an avid dancer, a passionate video game player, a dedicated friend and an aspiring chef who loved experimenting in the kitchen and on the grill. He was the most jovial of all of his siblings and rarely met a stranger.
Courtney’s earthly life ended on June 12, 2017. Left to celebrate and cherish his memory are his parents Richard and Cheryl Champion, Pelham, AL; three brothers: Cedric (Gina) LeMoyne of Milwaukee, WI, Gabriel (Leigh) Morris and Corderro Champion of Pelham, AL; three sisters: Patrice (Ronald) Singletary of New Orleans, LA, Tameiki Lee and Shawana (Herbert) Smith of Jackson, MS; nephews: Noah Kai LeMoyne of Los Angeles, CA and Gabriel “GJ” Morris of Pelham, AL; niece Ludivine Ohlsson of Milwaukee, WI; brother of the heart Ryan Poindexter of Jackson, MS; and a host of other relatives and friends.
