David "Chris" Christopher Bates

Chris was preceded in death by his brother, James Stephen "Steve" Bates, sister Karen Bates Lege, his mother Delores Vildibill Bates, and nephew Jason Stephen Bates.

Chris is survived by his wife, Patricia "Patti" Bates, son Christopher Bates (Lesly), step-daughter Amanda Lawson (Shane), step-sons Timothy Atchley (Danielle) and Jeremy Atchley (Sonya). Nieces Cari Davis (Chad), Stephanie Hall (Brian), and sisters-in-law Becky Thacker (Ron), Brenda Jones (Gary) and Janet Mills (David), along with 11 grandchildren, 2 great nieces, 3 great nephews, and many friends.

Chris was a beloved husband, father, and uncle who had a servant's heart; known to be a help to all who needed him, especially family.

Chris enjoyed Alabama football and loved tending the many plants he and his wife had at their home. Chris also loved wood-working, telling jokes, and laughing with friends and family.

Chris was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral home located at 475 Cahaba Valley Road in Pelham, AL on Friday September 15, 2023 at 10:00am with services following at 11:00am with interment to follow at the same location.
