Dr. David Litton Foreman, 61, mathematics professor at Samford University in Birmingham, AL since 1986, passed away May 1, 2014. The Monroe, LA native was Samford's 2010 recipient of the John H. Buchanan Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching.
Dr. Foreman was a member of the Alabama Association of College Teachers of Mathematics and the Mathematical Association of America. He graduated summa cum laude from Baylor University before earning a master’s from Indiana University and a Ph.D. from Louisiana State University.
In Birmingham, Dr. Foreman was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church, where he taught a Bible class.
He was predeceased by his mother, Joyce Kyle Litton Foreman. Survivors include his wife, Elvia Glover Foreman of Birmingham; daughters, Julie Cathleen Foreman of Austin, TX and Emily Claire Foreman of Birmingham; father, A.D. Foreman III of Golden, CO; sister, Lynn Foreman of Lukewood, CO; nephew, Kyle McCain of Denver, CO; and niece, Leslie Doyle of Golden, CO.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Brookwood Baptist Church, Birmingham. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, AL with pallbearers Jay Carson, Bryan Fister, Jon Glover, Larry Pharr, Lyle Turner, and Charles Vianey. Honorary pallbearers will be faculty of Samford University's Dept. of Mathematics and Computer Science. Later on Wednesday, the 2 p.m. memorial service will be at Brookwood Baptist. Dr. Jim Barnett and Rev. Tim Clark, officiants.
