Deven was born in Cincinnati, Ohio at The Christ Hospital on April 12, 2005, to David and Rupa Kitchens.
Deven is a graduate of The Altamont School, Class of 2023. He is an Eagle Scout, a second-degree black belt, a talented pianist, and an incredible soccer player. Deven traveled the world with his family, and he saw what life is like for others on five different continents.
More than anything, he adored his friends from high school and his newer friends from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Deven started his college journey at the University of Stirling in Scotland through the Carolina Global Launch program in 2023. He met incredible people in Scotland, and he had life-changing experiences there. He completed two years at Carolina as a student.
Deven was the quietest kid, who never had a problem with anyone except his big sister, Maya. He loved quietly, but fiercely. When Deven loved you, you knew it.
He enjoyed playing video games and poker with friends. Deven loved fantasy football, World Cup Soccer, the Tottenham Hotspur, as well as following football and basketball for Auburn and UNC.
At home, he loved playing piano, watching SpongeBob with his Mom and playing the Wii, especially Guitar Hero, with his Dad and his cousins.
He is survived by his parents, David and Rupa Kitchens, and his big sister, Maya Kitchens. He is also survived by his grandfather, Virupaksha Kothandapani, of Mobile, Alabama; his aunts and uncles Susan and Phil Kwun of Darien, Connecticut; Kathy and Ben Downie of Austin, Texas; and cousins, Max Katner, Ava Katner, Sophie Kwun, Dylan Downie, Kaitlyn “KK” Kwun, and Angus Downie and a huge extended family.
