Deward graduated from Caverna High School and earned his undergraduate degree from Western Kentucky University. His professional career was in engineering and drafting for the Detrex Company. He also taught for many years at South Central Kentucky Technical College. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, camping, genealogy, and planning his next adventure.
Deward was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Borders Burd, to whom he was married on September 17, 1965; one son, Melvin Lee Burd; parents, Orville Deward Burd and Armeda Alice Chaney Burd; sister, Mineva Dennison; and nephew, Neal Dennison. He is survived by his children, DewAnn Francis (husband Terry), Kendra Pacheco, Charlynn Burd, and Terri Ellen Warner (husband Chris); grandchildren, Peyton Francis, Jillian Francis, Jamison Francis, Carolina Warner, Olivia Warner, and James Warner; brother-in-law, Edwin Dennison; and one niece, Allison Dennison.
The family will greet friends Monday, November 6, 2023 at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Chapel in Bowling Green, Kentucky from 10-11 a.m., followed by A Service of Remembrance for Deward at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, 832 Broadway Avenue, Bowling Green, KY 42101. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Park, Bowling Green. Terry Francis, Deward's son-in-law, will officiate.
