Donald "Shane" Kelly

Donald Shane Kelly, 63, of Birmingham, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born on June 12, 1962, in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, Shane lived a life devoted to serving others, learning continuously, and loving his family deeply.

Shane graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1992 and began his residency in 1993 at UAB. He faithfully served as a radiologist for 29 years, dedicating his life to caring for others through his work in medicine.

Outside of his career, Shane had a deep passion for reading, learning, helping others, and spending time with the people he loved most. He was a steady source of wisdom, support, and encouragement to all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Kendrick Kelly; his children Lauren Willis (Logan), Blakelee Hibbs, Spencer Kelly, and bonus daughter Laci Vorster; his brothers Todd Kelly (Misty) and Brent Kelly; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milford Donald Kelly and Peggy Williams Kelly.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on June 6 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home & Cemetery. A private graveside service will be held for the family.

Shane will be remembered for his kind heart, brilliant mind, unwavering support for his family, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
