

Donald received his formal education in Bedford, Iowa before receiving his Undergraduate degree from Northwest Missouri State University. He furthered his education and received a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Donald married Nellie Odom on August 31, 1954 in Clarinda, Iowa. Their union was blessed with 4 children.
Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army as Sergeant in the 135th Field Artillery Battalion.
Donald taught High School Math and Science in Iowa and Louisiana before beginning his career at Bellsouth. He was an Electrical Engineer and retired in 1993 after 35 years of service.
In his leisure time he enjoyed traveling with his family, boating, fishing, woodworking, camping, and making happy memories with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donald was a devoted member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church having moved to Birmingham from New Orleans with his family in 1970. He taught children’s Sunday School, led Royal Ambassadors, and participated in numerous domestic and international mission trips.After retirement, he volunteered for the American Red Cross. In his final years, he also enjoyed preparing for and teaching the - Love, Care, Serve- Men’s Sunday School class.
Donald was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Lincoln; his mother, Estella Lincoln; and his sister, Dorothea Grant.
Donald is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nellie; his sons - Gary (Melissa) Lincoln of Pensacola, FL and Robby Lincoln of Birmingham, AL; his daughters - Debra (Ray) Blanton of Blountsville, AL; and Sharon (Garrett) Neill of Birmingham, AL; his grandchildren Daniel (Jessica) Blanton, Christopher (Emily) Blanton, Emily (Leanne) Portera-Neill and Patrick (Daphne) Neill; and his great grandchildren Briley Blanton, Carter Blanton, Grayson Blanton and Carson Portera–Neill; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 4 at 2pm with a funeral service beginning at 3pm. Following the funeral, a graveside service will be held at the Southern Heritage cemetery
