Donna Gail McKinney graduated from Ripon College with the Bachelor of Arts in English Degree.
On May 28, 1959, she married Lynn Fort Lummus and began a long-time, immensely successful career as a housewife and homemaker. While her main passion in life was her family's well-being, she also devoted her time and energy unselfishly to gardening, environmental issues, her church, and various philanthropic causes. She was an active member of local Junior League, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Garden Club groups. She also served as director of the Lyndonwood Foundation.
Mrs. Lummus was predeceased by her husband, Lynn Fort Lummus, and her parents, Kathryn Ransom Coupland and John Keryl McKinney.
Survivors include Mrs. Lummus's children, Kathy Lummus Smith, Lynn M. Lummus, John M. Lummus, and James "Jim" F. Lummus; 15 grandchildren, Jennifer Smith Calhoun, Laura Smith, Jonathan Smith, Paul Smith, Katie Smith Gurley, Grace Smith Bowman, Rebecca Smith, Courtney Lummus, Abigail Lummus, Claire Lummus, Kailey Lummus Morris, Rowen Lummus, Colton Lummus, Jackson Lummus, and Landry Lummus; and two great-grandchildren, Jace Calhoun and Erin Morris.
The private graveside service will be at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North in Miami, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, or Fairchild Gardens in Miami, Florida.
