

Doyle L. Johnson of Hoover, Alabama passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Sunday, July 23, 2023. He was born in Alabaster, Alabama. After graduation from Shades Valley High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force for a 22-year career in military police.
Doyle loved sports, playing softball for military base teams and golf after retirement. He was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide football fan also.
His passion, however, was country music. He sang and played in bands in and after the Air Force, culminating in his induction into the Alabama Country Music Hall of Fame in 1989. The last several years, he wouldn't miss his weekly date with karaoke, his outlet to continue singing.
Doyle was preceded in death by his mother and father, Annie and James "Tige" Johnson, and his brothers, Bobby and Fred.
Survivors include Doyle's children, Cindy Spurlock (Ron), Randy Johnson (Janice), and Greg Johnson; grandchildren, Matt Spurlock, Derek Johnson, and Tara Johnson; three great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Nelms; brother, Jim Johnson; and sisters-in-law, Brenda Johnson and Sylvia Johnson.
Visitation will be at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 10-11 a.m., followed by A Service of Remembrance for Doyle Johnson at 11 a.m. Interment, Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
