

Sergeant Major Brown retired from the Alabama National Guard with over 40 years of military service, including active duty in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was a recipient of the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, three Army Achievement Medals, and Joint Meritorious Unit recognition.
He also earned the Army Good Conduct Medal, seven Army Reserve Components Achievement Medals, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, five Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, two Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbons, two Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and NATO Medal.
While Dwight was extremely proud of his long military career, his greatest pride was in his marriage to Nancy "Nan" White Brown; his two grown children; and his two grandchildren.
Dwight was predeceased by his parents, William Herman Brown and Ola Imogene Goss Brown, and one brother, Larry Brown.
Survivors include Dwight's wife, Nan; two children, Beth and Michael; two grandchildren, Olivia and Addison; and two sisters, Barbara and Carol.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The gravesite committal service will be the same day at 2:45 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo.
