I met Edith at Summer Moon many years ago.   She collected roses that were hand painted on China plates.  I had brought one that I had for the auction, but we had no auction that year.  I asked around and determined that she was a collector.  I gave her the china plate.  That gift began a lifelong friendship that I had never experienced in my lifetime.  I kept in contact through cards and letters with an occasional telephone call.  I found a close and loving relationship with this special person.  Because of the connection I had with her I truly believe that she is looking down upon me.  She will be my guardian angel.  I know you were met as your soul joined your loved ones and your Savior.  I know are relationship will still exist because I still experience your spirit in my soul.  Soar with the angels Edith.  


I met Edith a few years ago at a First People reunion.  I remember sitting down and chatting with her.  Edith’s welcoming and loving spirit made me feel like we had been friends all our lives.  In every conversation we had, her quick whit and sense of humor always left me with a smile on my face and a warmth in my heart.  She was so proud of her daughter, Ellison, and she loved her family deeply.  Love you Edith and looking forward to a grand reunion in Heaven,  Lindsey Smith   

To my second mom; I am happy you are with the angels. I know you see us grieving, but you are right where you wanted to be. When you climbed with your congregation up the volcano near my home in California, I will never forget when it was your turn to feel water on your face from the sacred spring, you said, “Don’t  mess up my hair!” We all laughed.  I remember many travels to church events. The congregation loved you! The one event you spoke of often was the trip to Kirtland Temple.  We did not know if you could go but being in a service in that temple meant the world to you. You went for your Grandmother too, who never got to see it. I enjoyed the little things with you: our pajama parties (popcorn & a movie), the garden, reaping  veggies, sneaking chocolate, hearing the stories of your dad, family, horses and riding . I thank you for 'adopting' me as a daughter. You told others, I was your daughter.  I needed a mom as I lost mine  almost 30 years ago. You loved your children. They were really lucky to have you as their mom. You mothered in great detail. You had many friends.  You fulfilled a purpose, yet you felt that you had no a purpose. You were all the things your children were. You gave them life, and what they did was your doing. You were a police  Captain, You sold trucks, You were a Grandmother and a Great Grandmother. You were a promoter in the music industry. You even got a kiss on the cheek from Garth Brooks. You earned many degrees. You played golf and traveled all over the world. All this was your purpose and you lived life “Big!” I will miss the sparkle in your eye every time I tucked you in bed, with an exchange of I love you. Eric, C.R. and Ellison carry you in their hearts and lives and all in what they do, forever.  We had great moments and lots of laughter. I will miss my second mom terribly, but I am happy you are with your dad, loved ones, and with Jesus. I will see you again. Until then, as you would say, "Try to stay out of trouble!"

It was only about the last twelve years or so that I came to know Edith Beggs, this very active elderly red-haired golf playing woman from Alabama. 
 
My primary contact with Edith over the years was at the First People Community of Christ Summer Moon reunion event.
 
In my capacity as financial officer my job was to try to balance our expenses for the week with our free-will offerings. Usually on the last day of camp Edith would come to me and ask how much money I needed for us to cover our expenses. She would then write me a check for that amount. 
 
Through her acts of generosity over the years many have been blessed materially and spiritually. I will always remember her generous and loving spirit. She will be sorely missed. Rest in peace Edith!

Sending you love.  I am so thankful for having known Edith.  What a direct and joyous lady!  She was so good with the children at Summer Moon camp when she would come and tell stories.  
I was also impressed with your loving and humourously patient care of Edith.

Edith was more like a sister to me than a cousin. We spent many a visit whispering long into the night about all the things little girls, and later teenagers, share with each other. Then, as our families grew and our lives moved on, we talked on the phone or kept in touch by letters. Edith's wit and strength will be missed by so very many who love her. Rest with God, dearest one. 

Our dear elder Edith has returned home to her Heavenly Father.  Her foot print on her earthwalk was one of wisdom and beauty...  one where always Grace being present.  Fond memories of her smile and passion, and as a supporting witness to her daughter's Ellison's arduous assignments.  I know she will be assisting from the other side of the veil.  Truly an honor to have blessed experiences with you.  Aho

There were several times that I was privileged to visit with Edith at our Summer Moons, but the time that instantly came to mind was when we were in the visitors center when we went to Kirtland Temple.  Edith was sitting out in the lobby and I went to tell her hello and visit a minute.
She was just as beautiful as always with her red hair, beautiful smile and a sparkle in her eyes.  She looked up at me and smiled brightly as she said,  "I am so proud of Ellison!".  That pride was written all over her face.  I remember her as a very happy and spirit filled woman.  I am grateful for the times she shared life with me! 

Edith and I lived on the same street for 30 years. It was great getting to know her. We both ended up in Alabama from Kansas because of our husband’s job. I loved going in her house to see all the Native American decorations. We had that in common too.  She will be missed. 

So sorry to hear of Mrs. Beggs passing. She was such a wonderful woman.  

Dear Edith,

I miss you. But, at least now I know that you are without pain and suffering. Being with Jesus and all your loved ones is the reward we all think about.

I'm sorry I didn't have the chance to know you better. I'll be seeing you in all the familiar places-like Saints Grove-in Heaven.

You will be missed Mrs. Beggs. I was blessed to have had you in my life. You still owe me a rematch in golf, which I will collect some day, after you at 65 or so beat this 20 something....and took all my money that wonderful golf day....and thank you for the "Nickers" you gave me after your win, life lesson! Mom,

We've come a long way down this path of life.  You have always been there for your children whenever they needed you.  For me, you have been more of a friend than a 'mom,' not to say you weren't a great mom;  we shared a lot of experiences together. You were a great traveling companion and always very supportive of me as I grew spiritually.

I was always amazed at the diversity of your knowledge about many subjects as well as life in general.  It might surprise many to know that you could do most everything - except maybe swim.  

I'll never forget the time I got the old pick-up stuck in the mud at the house in Stanley.  You grabbed the keys and walked through the muck in your boots and jumped in behind the wheel.  After rocking that old manual transmission pick-up back and forth enough times, you found solid ground and out you came  mud flying!  I was in awe.  I was also relieved that a tow truck was not in the future and a scolding from dad was eliminated.  

You have done many things and were always a lady;  clothes were impeccable, hair and make-up had to be perfect.  Everything had it's place and arranged just so.   The beauty of your love for me is that you never pushed me to be something you wanted me to be.  You let me find my own way and held out your hand when I needed catching.  You were that way with all of us.  You prepared three children for their life's journeys.  All of our successes, our positive influences and accomplishments were due in part to your guidance and subtle teachings.  You were and always have been the current of air that lifted us kids to the 'heights of our best.'

You sometimes wondered why God put you here on this earth.   I heard you ask if there was something more you could do.  You did your job and did it well.  You created a space for three kids and a husband to live.  That is the greatest gift anyone can provide.  You served the highest purpose.  Thank you mom, for completing the task.
