
Ella Carolyn Parks was born September 22, 1938, in Talladega County, Alabama to Leon Hayne Parks and Myrtice Hart Everett Parks. She was a lifelong resident of Alabama, and graduated from Fayetteville High School. She furthered her education, graduating from Auburn University.
Carolyn began her career at Southern Research Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, before going to work at St. Vincent’s Hospital (Birmingham) as a Medical Technologist, where she worked for many years. She eventually became the Program Coordinator for St. Vincent’s School of Medical Technology.
After leaving St. Vincent’s, Carolyn worked for the United States Postal Service at the Main Birmingham Branch, the Ensley-Wynona Branch and the Homewood Branch where she worked as a Clerk before retiring in 2004.
Carolyn married Lincoln Lewis DeHart, Jr., of Reading, Pennsylvania, on February 9, 1972, in Birmingham, Alabama. They had two sons, Michael and Matthew.
Carolyn was a strong, determined and independent woman. She valued excellence and education, and sacrificed to provide her children with the best education she could. She was always supportive of her children’s activities, and was always there to cheer them on. She also served as League Commissioner for Southside Little League Baseball at Avondale Park in Birmingham. Carolyn was caregiver to her mother in her last years, and was herself a breast cancer survivor.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her father, Leon Hayne Parks and her mother, Myrtice Hart Everett Parks. Carolyn is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Lincoln Lewis DeHart, Jr., her sons, Michael McRae DeHart (Paula Crane DeHart) and Matthew Lincoln DeHart (Joanna Cortese DeHart), and her grandchildren, Lydia Everett DeHart, Daniel Hayne DeHart, Matthew Dean DeHart and Austin Joseph DeHart.
A graveside service will be held Monday, October 25, 2021, at 3:00 in the afternoon at Fayetteville Methodist Church Cemetery, Fayetteville, Alabama, Reverend Mark A. Puckett officiating. Family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m. Curtis and Son Funeral Home, Sylacauga, Alabama directing.
