Elliott was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Olga Robins, his sister, Delene Williams, and his great-granddaughter, Rylee Blackmon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley Robins, his son Jeff Robins (Susan) and his daughter JoEllen Blackmon (Randy). He is also survived by his grandchildren Jeff Inman (Rachael) and their children Aleza, Luciana, and Lilah; Chris Robins (Laura) and their children Baylie and Sophie; Craig Robins (Ashlin) and their children Gates and Miles; Steven Blackmon (Rachael); and Phillip Blackmon (Heather) and their child Jase. He is also survived by his brother, Earl Robins (Barbara), and his brother-in-law, Buster Williams.
Elliott was born in Nauvoo, Alabama in 1930, and later moved to Fairfield in 1948 at which time he began a career sweeping floors for Tennessee Coal and Iron Company, currently U.S. Steel Corporation.
In early 1951, he took a leave of absence from his job to join the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. He reached the rank of Sergeant - Medical Field Services Corps - before being honorably discharged in late 1952.
Upon leaving the Army, Elliott returned to a position at U.S. Steel, and over a long career there, he reached a supervisory role over the Fairfield and Ensley Roll shops. He retired in 1986 after 38 years of dedicated service to the company.
Elliott filled his retirement years, and much of his life, for that matter, building and fixing things. He was a master at cabinet carpentry, being largely taught by his father-in-law, C. H. Buckels. And there was almost nothing broken that he couldn’t find a way to fix.
Outside of cabinetry, one of Elliott’s favorite pastimes was camping; starting out with the family camping at Wind Creek State Park in their car, and upgrading to an Airstream camping trailer over the years. He truly enjoyed the days spent camping with friends, and especially his family. He and Shirley spent many winters in Melbourne, Florida camping with his brother Earl and his wife Barbara, and sister Delene and her husband Buster. He would say that there weren’t many states in this country that he hasn’t dragged that “silver bullet” through.
Elliott loved listening to gospel music. He was a life-long Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Alabaster, Alabama.
A graveside service will be held for the family at the Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama with Mr. Marty Brooks officiating.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made in Elliott’s memory to the American Heart Association.
