

After graduating from Ashville High School, Emma John attended the University of Alabama and graduated with a degree in education from Jacksonville State University. She taught in the Birmingham area for over 30 years, with the last 20 years serving as a second grade teacher at McElwain Elementary School. She loved her students and was greatly loved by them as well.
Emma John was a member of Huffman Baptist Church and later joined Lakeside Baptist Church after she moved to Hoover, Alabama. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her passions in life were her family and serving others. She loved her time with her children and grandchildren, as well as the many nieces, nephews, and cousins she adored.
Emma John was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Henry McGehee; her parents, William Posey Cobb and Carrie Lee Dodd Cobb; son, Gregory Lee McGehee; brothers, Vester Ray Cobb, Dr. Bill J. Cobb, Warren Ty Cobb, and Sam Gerald Cobb; and sisters, Kathleen Cobb Garrett, Jimmy Lou Cobb Perkins, Ruth Cobb Oliver, and Robbie Lee Cobb Grimes.
Survivors include Emma John's sons, Howard Harrison McGehee, Jeffrey Allen McGehee (Tonya), and Andrew Oliver McGehee, Sr. (Keri); grandchildren, Rachel Cobb McGehee Lynch (William), Anna Harrison McGehee, Matthew Allen McGehee (Shannon), Carrie Leigh McGehee Porter (Daniel), Lillian Grace McGehee, Andrew Oliver McGehee Jr., Jonathan James McGehee, and Emalee Brooke McGehee; and great-grandchildren, William Peter Lynch Jr., Stella Magdalene McGehee, Hallie Pearl McGehee, and Asher Charles McGehee.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, immediately followed by the funeral service at 12 noon at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Dr. Earl Tew will officiate. Burial will be at Guntersville City Cemetery.
