Eve was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Winifred Stanley of Southampton, England, her sister Lois Cost, her daughter Barbara Gail Henry, and her husband of 60 years Roy David Jowers
Eve was born in Southampton, England where she lived until 5 years old when the family relocated to British India while her father served in the Royal Army during World War II.
After her father was deployed to Africa, she and her mother and two sisters were relocated to Wales. They resided there until after the death of her father who was killed in action. The family moved back to Southampton where Eve lived until she came to America to assist her sister with childcare. While in America, Eve met Roy David Jowers, and they were married on July 4, 1953. In the same year Eve became a naturalized citizen and lived in Pelham, Alabama with her husband until their deaths.
Eve was a service minded person and really enjoyed volunteering in her community. She was an active member of her church where she taught Sunday school, worked in the nursery, was the church secretary, as well as serving in many other areas. She, along with her husband Roy, were dedicated poll workers and American Red Cross volunteers where they responded to at least 30 natural disasters. She was a member of the Pelham Homemakers club where she received several first-place ribbons for her beautiful, knitted designs. As a licensed beautician, Eve volunteered for over 15 years at a local nursing home pampering the residents. Later in life, she and her husband enjoyed spending time as members of the Pelham Pioneers club.
While Eve thought she lived an insignificant life, her life was really quite magnificent. She was the daughter of a Royal Army Officer, an English immigrant, a licensed beautician, a talented knitter, a wife to city councilman, a cancer survivor, a beloved mother to 5 children, a dedicated volunteer, an amazing grandmother with a true heart of gold.
“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”
Proverbs 31:28 KJV
