Fleta Sconyers was born in Stella, Missouri on August 7, 1925 to Lloyd and Ruth Rowe. She attended business college and worked in a bank. She met her husband, Jack, at Camp Crowder in Missouri at a USO dance. They courted by mail and later married in Lakeland, Florida in 1947. They moved to Montgomery, Alabama where they raised four children and volunteered at Highland Avenue Baptist Church in Children's activities. Jack's job at Southern Bell brought them to Homewood in 1962. Fleta worked as a bookkeeper for the Lyon's Club Eye Bank and retired from Alabama Sight. She was an active member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. Her involvements there include the Dawsonaires Senior Choir, the Pioneer Club and Sunday School. Fleta loved cross-stitch. In her later years, she lovingly looked after her husband during his last years. She lived her last 3 years at Mount Royal Towers, where she was well cared for.
Fleta was a loving mother of 4, grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 5. Mrs. Sconyers is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Bennett Sconyers; her parents, Lloyd and Ruth Rowe; and her brother, Nolan Rowe (Marilyn Cooper). She is survived by daughters, Janice Shannon (Sam), Sharon Bamberg (Robert) and Gaye Shields (Pete); a son, Gary Sconyers (Susan); grandchildren, Mark Shannon (DeAnn), Kirk Shannon (Ashly), Bart Bamberg (Shannon), Sarah Bamberg, Lisa Bamberg, Joseph Bamberg, Katie Shields, Kelly Shields and Lynsey Sconyers; great grandchildren, Noah Shannon, Rachel Shannon, Caleb Shannon, Sarah Shannon and James Bamberg.
The funeral service for Mrs. Sconyers will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
