Fran loved the Lord and showed her servant heart in so many ways to all that knew her.
Fran was born on July 25, 1942 in Richmond, Virginia and was a graduate of Prince George High School. She met and married Walter McMahon, Jr. in 1962 and they were happily married for over 55 years. Although she and Walt lived in many places before settling down in Birmingham, she always considered herself a Virginian at heart and would often return to visit her family. Before her illness, she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Pelham, where she loved singing in the choir. She also enjoyed playing bridge, spending time with her friends, traveling, and Christmastime, but nothing made her happier than spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. McMahon is preceded in death by her parents, Dorsey and Lizzie Wingo and seven brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Walter E. McMahon, Jr.; daughters, Terri Ray (Phillip) and Susan Ward (Steve); son, Bob McMahon (Wendy); sisters, Beck Evans and Renie Eskey (Albert); grandchildren, Andrew Ray, Elizabeth Ward, Noah McMahon, and Nicholas McMahon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 1pm on Wednesday, November 29. The family will receive friends at a visitation beginning at 12 noon.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. David Geldmacher, Dr. Rita Jablonski-Jouldon, and Paula Lowrey at UAB Department of Neurology for their kindness and care given to Fran during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Fran’s memory to First Baptist Church of Pelham, 2867 Pelham Parkway, Pelham, AL 35124, or Save-a-Life, 1480 McGuire Road, Birmingham, AL 35216.
