After graduating from Auburndale High School, in Florida, he began his college journey but was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served for two years in Japan during the Korean War. It was the excellent recommendation from his Sergeant that got him into veterinary school at Auburn University, where he graduated in 1960 as a Doctor in Veterinary Medicine. He had a very successful practice for over 35 years.
Frank was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham for over 50 years, during which he served as a deacon and was a long-term member of the Deeper Life Sunday School Class. He was also active in the Downtown Lions Club.
In his leisure, Frank enjoyed spending time with family and working with wood and stained glass. "If Papa Doc can't fix it, it ain't broken," family members would say. He was an avid outdoorsman and served as Scoutmaster for Troop 254 at Briarwood for several years.
Frank is survived by his wife, “Bud" (to whom he was married for 63 years); their children, Rencher (Shawn), Dana Estep (Alfred), and Brad (Anita); grandchildren, Trace (Akayla), Kyle (Morgan), Taylor Bronwyn (CJ), Mill, Sam, Brad Jr. (Alana), Hayden, Ethan, and Logan; along with four great-grandchildren.
The gravesite committal service will be at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo for family only.
A memorial service for all will be held at the chapel at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Birmingham on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 2 p.m.
