Garcia Holden Myers

Garcia Holden Myers, 77, of Maylene, Alabama passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024. He was born in Sayre, Alabama on September 16, 1946, and was the proud son of Jimmie A. Myers and Willie Pledger Quinn.

Garcia proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He worked for the Shaneburg Company, Walmart, New York Life, and Orkin. He was proud to be an American and loved his home state of Alabama.

Garcia was a Mason, a Shriner, and an Elk. He was Elk of the Year 2000-2001 at his Pelham, Alabama lodge. If you knew Garcia, you know he loved to play poker several days a week. He also loved to watch football (especially Alabama Crimson Tide), basketball, golf, and Alabama gymnastics. He knew statistics about sports without having to look them up. He was a member of the Church of the Mill, where he liked to joke with other members about football.

Garcia was also known as an encourager of the children in his life, including his nieces, nephews, and neighborhood kids. He knew their names, birthdays, and what sports they played, and he often would call them to congratulate them when he saw their names in the newspapers.

Garcia was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kevin Myers; and step-dad, Thomas Quinn. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marsha Hallmark Myers; son, Jared G. Myers (Chrystie); sister, Krystal Phillips (Greg); brother, Tommy Quinn (Cheryl); and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, February 12, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124. A Service of Remembrance for Garcia Myers will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Ridout's Southern Heritage. The gravesite committal service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Rice's Chapel Cemetery, 1525 Gravlee Junction Road, Bremen, AL 35033. Honorary pallbearers will be the Poker Club members.
