Gary was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1949 to the late Arthur and Lorene Nesmith. He is also preceded in death by his grandparents, Dewey and Alice McClain and Jay and Lula Nesmith. He graduated from West End High School and retired as a Captain from the Birmingham Fire Department after over 30 years of service.
Gary had a passion for motorcycles, which included restoring old ones and taking long cross-country trips. One of those trips was to the northernmost point of Alaska. He also loved camping, fishing, Alabama football, Nascar racing, and dirt bikes.
Left to cherish his memory is his son, Joel Nesmith along with his wife, Pam; and his grandchildren, Brodie; Alyssa; and Bailey. He is also survived by his two brothers, Loyd Nesmith and Tim Nesmith; his nephews, Jay and Patrick Nesmith; and his niece, Britney Nesmith Cryer.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 2:00 pm with a reception taking place immediately after.
