George Michael McLain, age 81, went to the Lord on November 6th, 2025. Born on August 9th, 1944, in Warrior, Alabama he called many places home: Japan, Spain, California, and others, but Birmingham, Alabama is where he finally settled down.
He was a proud Auburn University graduate, and even prouder Auburn football fan, especially on a winning Saturday. War Eagle!
When Mike was younger, he spent his free time fishing. Later, he developed an appreciation for original art and a lifelong hobby of collecting pieces from his favorite local artists. His love of color and artistic detail brought him real joy and even inspired him to paint.
Mike also enjoyed capturing the world through his camera lens and could spend hours editing photos until they were just right. Occasionally, loved ones would receive a text of a photo of themselves edited into a Star Wars character or as a superhero, him lovingly having fun.
He was fascinated by new gadgets, the latest technology and would diligently research cars, specifically older convertibles. He always owned one, pristinely kept and ready for a perfect weather drive. He was a fan of drama and action films, and a bigger fan of good practical jokes. An effective jump-scare could make him laugh until he cried.
His family was his greatest treasure. He was a devoted husband to Brigitte McLain and a loving father to three children: Kelli Braud (Brandon Braud), Kasey Johnson, and Reid McLain. He has 5 grandchildren: Celia, Camp, Millie, MJ, and Mary Louise. His siblings are Gary McLain and Jane Watkins.
Mike lived with integrity, compassion, and a faith in Christ. He treated everyone with equal respect, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and love. His family rejoices knowing he is now at peace, riding top-down on Heaven’s highways, soaking in God’s radiant art. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, with a graveside service to follow in his honor in the adjoining cemetery.
