George Thomas ( Tommy) Wallace, 66, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017 surrounded by loving family. Born on May 5, 1951, in Jacksonville, Florida, Tommy moved to Birmingham in 1987 with his wife Marlene ( Heinzman) Wallace and sons Brian ( Aparna) of Los Angeles and Brett ( Jesica) of Birmingham, who survive him.
Tommy grew up with four siblings and excelled in all sports and even his humble nature couldn’t keep him from being proud of his .425 batting average. He was an avid outdoorsman who maintained many friendships while fishing, golfing and traveling the world with Marlene. In recent years, the two visited Paris, Tuscany and Africa.
He worked as the Facilities Manager at Oakstone Publishing for 28 years as Manager of Facilities, Distribution and Shipping and loved his work family.
If Tommy was devout about anything, it was his marriage to Marlene, who celebrated their 43rd anniversary last month, the Florida State Seminoles, and enjoying the birds in his back yard, where he vigilantly guarded his feeders from rogue squirrels.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lois ( Falaney) Wallace , brother Wyley Wallace and nephew James Ayers.
In addition to his wife and sons, Tommy is also survived by brothers Clayton ( Judy) and Floyd (Pat), sister Norma( Vic) McQuaig, sister-in-law, Maris Ayers, nieces, Nancy, Renee and Stacey, nephews Mike and Clay and countless friends and colleagues in Birmingham, Alabama and around the country.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Birmingham Humane Society and wishes to pay special thanks to the nursing staff in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Grand View Medical Center, whose compassion and professionalism were nothing less than peerless.
