George W. Wheeler

George Warren Wheeler passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. George was preceded in death by his parents, B.A. and Stella Wheeler; brothers, B.A., Jr., Jack, Robert and Rexford Wheeler; sister, Jeri Waters; and his devoted and loving wife of 60 years, Mary. He is survived by his sister, Emma Campbell; sons, Jeff (Dot), Allan and Brian Wheeler; grandchildren, Drew (Lindsey), Ashley, Cade (Pariya), Evan (Kristin) and Claire Wheeler; and great grandchildren, Alexander and Jackson Wheeler.

George enjoyed a career as a Southern Bell/South Central Bell executive. He was born in Atlanta, where he lived until moving to Birmingham upon the formation of South Central Bell. He was a proud WWII Navy veteran and alumni of Tech High, U of GA and John Marshall School of Law. George was a wonderful man of great character and integrity who was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him.

The family expresses gratitude to the physicians, nurses and staff of 4 West at Brookwood Hospital for their care during his final days.

The celebration of George’s life will be at 2pm on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama, or to the charity of your choice.
