Gina Lynn Kennon went home to be with Jesus on September 17, 2025, at Aspire Physical Recovery Center.
Words are inadequate to describe the precious woman we knew as Gina. She was born on October 24, 1956, in Birmingham, AL, to Richard T. and Sara L. McGraw. She grew up in Vincent, AL, graduating from Vincent High School before continuing her education at Samford University at just 17 years old. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and later moved to Mobile, AL, where she met the love of her life and husband of 42 years, Ed Kennon.
For more than two decades, Gina poured her heart into caring for others as a registered nurse in Mobile, Stevensville, MI, and Birmingham. She found her greatest joy working with newborns and new mothers, where her gentle touch and kind spirit brought peace and comfort to countless families. Her nursing career was cut short by autoimmune disease at the age of 42, but her identity as a caregiver never ceased.
Even in the face of 26 years of debilitating illness, Gina remained a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Compassionate, witty, adventurous, and creative, she brought light and joy to all who knew her. She loved making costumes, cakes, and holiday decorations, and she found peace in God’s creation—whether in the mountains, the sea, the forest, or her garden. Her radiant smile, patience, kindness, and warmth will be cherished forever in the hearts of her loved ones.
Gina was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Mark Allen McGraw; and her niece, Kelsey Lynn McGraw.
She is survived by her husband, Ed Kennon; her daughter, Lauren Kennon and son-in-law Thatcher Collins; her grandchildren, Katmai, Knute, Rorik, and Beowulf Kennon; and her brother, Larry McGraw and his wife Vallerie.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Christ Church Birmingham, 5091 Caldwell Mill Rd, Birmingham, AL. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by a service at 12:00 PM.
