Gustave Norris McKenzie

Gustave “Gavie” McKenzie of Maylene, Alabama, passed away surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Brilliant, Alabama, and later made her home in Maylene, where she built lasting connections and enjoyed an active community life.

Gustave retired after 27 years from BellSouth, where she built many friendships. She loved her time at the Alabaster Senior Center, where she spent many happy hours playing cards and visiting with friends. She found joy in tending her vegetable garden, quilting, and caring for her beloved chickens, but most of all she treasured time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, where she found fellowship and faith.

She is survived by her children: Heidi Beard (Ken), Jake McKenzie (Carly), and Matthew McKenzie (Nat). She was a proud grandmother to Jessica, Alaina, Alexis, Vaughn, Fletcher, Grant, Tyler, and Everett, step-grandmother to Kayla and JB, and great-grandmother to Melody and Eddie.

Services will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Drive, Pelham, AL. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM.

She will be remembered by her family and friends for the life she lived and the time she shared with those closest to her.
