Guy was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. He started his work career at Alabama Power Company in 1967 and, after retiring from the Power Company, he began another career with Charles Ashby Company.
He enjoyed woodworking and built many pieces of fine furniture. He also loved gardening and Auburn Tigers sports, especially basketball, but his greatest loves were spending time with his family and serving in his church, Lakeside Baptist, for over 20 years.
Guy was predeceased by his mother and father, Zora and Marlin Edgil; one sister, Irene; and three brothers, Stancil, J.L., and Leonard. Survivors include Guy's wife of 30 years, the former Sharon Sue Mann; one daughter, Dana McGough; one son, Steve Roberts (Jill); grandsons, Benjamin, Aaron, and David; sisters, Roberta Estes and Christine Keener; brother, Joe (Betty); and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham, immediately followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama. Dr. Richard Trader and Dr. Greg Corbin will officiate.
