James was born in Hinsdale, Illinois, on January 15, 1949. He graduated from Banks High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Birmingham-Southern College.
James dedicated over 30 years to Hardie Tynes and 17 years with KTA-Tator in the steel inspection industry. He had a passion for golf and Alabama football.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Patricia McCraven; daughter Lisa McCraven Hood (Michael); son Michael James McCraven (Mari); grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, Bailey, and Lucas Hood; Austin and Logan Collins; and brothers David McCraven (Donita) and Dennis McCraven (Trish).
Visitation will be Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM, with service to follow at Southern Heritage Funeral Home.
